Thailand seizes 63 illegal crypto mining rigs that stole over $327k in electricity

Officers of Thailand’s Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) seized 63 unlawful crypto mining machines on Friday, based on a report by The Nation. The unlawful crypto mining rigs, value round 2 million baht ($60,000), had been present in three deserted homes within the Pathum Thani province.

Officers performed a raid after locals of the area complained about unidentified people stealing electrical energy from the area’s utility poles and transformers. The locals suspected that the stolen electrical energy was getting used for cryptocurrency mining operations hidden in deserted buildings.

Crypto mining requires huge quantities of electrical energy. Authorities estimate that the illicit mining rigs precipitated losses value over 11 million baht (over $327 million) to the Metropolitan Electrical energy Authority.

The unlawful mining rigs had been managed remotely

Police officers mentioned that together with the mining rigs, in addition they confiscated three crypto mining controllers, three routers, three web sign boosters, three modified electrical energy metres, a desktop pc, a laptop computer pc, and two financial institution passbooks. No arrests had been made because the mining operations had been being managed remotely.

Thailand has been plagued with unlawful mining operations
